April 7 - April 19, 2006 (13 days)
Geologic Grand Canyon Rafting Trip with Ivo Lucchitta
Enjoy the majesty of the Grand Canyon, ride the rapids on 33' motor rigs, hike the side canyons, and learn the geology from a world renown Grand Canyon geologist, Dr. Ivo Lucchitta.  Cost: to be determined to include transportation from Flagstaff to Lees Ferry and back from Diamond Creek, $75 non-refundable honorarium for Ivo, tips for the river guides, cost for the hotel before and after the trip, and cost of alcoholic beverages.  Contact Jan Taylor, trip organizer at jhntaylor@altrionet.com or 626-359-3031. 

April 20: Brown Bag Lecture: Kanab GSENM Visitor Center. Current Trends in Vegetation Management. Presented by Tyler Thompson, Habitat Biologist for Utah Division of Wildlife Resources. Admission is free. Bring your own lunch.

April 21: Earth Day: Come celebrate Earth Day in Kanab! Focus is on the wise-use of resources and how individuals can help conserve these resources. Poster contests at local area schools, Earth Day treasure hunt (educational activity) and many other educational activities provided by booth participants. April 23: Earth Day  - Zion National Park field day, sponsored by the Zion Natural History Association.  The day involves short hikes, workshops and things for all ages to do.

May 5-7: Greyhound Gathering
Greyhounds everywhere you look!  Shopping with the Artisans Friday afternoon, spectator events on Saturday include a 10 AM parade of costumed hounds and handlers, greyhound idol show and a Blur-of-Fur (greyhounds in motion clocked by a radar gun.

This race will be perfect for the first time triathlete. Bring the whole family and enjoy the event together. The swim portion will be held at the Kanab city pool, with the bike and run portions on the streets of Kanab. For a $35 fee, ($10 discount for anyone 16 and under) everyone will receive a race t-shirt and there will be prizes awarded for the top three in each category. August 22-27: Maynard Dixon Country in Mt. Carmel The Thunderbird Foundation for the Arts hosts the annual Maynard Dixon Country Invitational Art Exhibition each summer to showcase the work of the country's finest contemporary artists. The event features approximately one hundred and twenty works of art by more than forty artists, dinner and entertainment. Join us at the Mt. Carmel, Utah home built by Maynard Dixon and his wife Edith Hamlin.

August: Kane County Fair- in Orderville
Country fair with livestock shows, home arts and crafts, produce and flowers, games, entertainment. Parade and Rodeo on Saturday. 

August: Western Legends Roundup in Kanab
 A celebration of the culture of the Old West. Wagon Train, Workshops, Film Festival, Quilt Show, Cowboy Poetry, Tent Revival, Indian Dancing, Quick Draw Contest, Working Displays, Fiddle Contest, and a Dutch Oven Cook-off.
